History
If you are to have just one naturopathic medicine then Aloe Vera is a good bet. The Aloe Vera plant is commonly referred to as the miracle plant. For over 4000 years this cactus-type of plant has been used for a variety of ailments and sicknesses. It is claimed to cure everything from acne and burn injuries to rheumatism.
Cleopatra herself was using Aloe Vera gel for beauty care and modern Egyptian doctors have after only one month of treatment completely cured women from the sever acne vulgaris.
Indians in Central America and Mexico are known to use Aloe Vera for burn injuries, ulcers, dysentery and different infections. On the island of Java it is used for hair care. They believe it stimulates the hair growth when applied to the scalp.
Plant
There are over 250 different types of Aloe Vera. Aloe resembles a cactus but belongs to the garlic- and lily family. Aloe Vera (Aloe Barbadensis Miller) is the type that has the best medical qualities.
The plant is matured after four years and thereafter the leaves are harvested.
Aloe Vera contains 75 known nourishments among others; vitamins minerals, enzymes and amino acids.
